Drawing attentions for caring women during their pregnancy and breastfeeding is one of the essential and lifesaving assistance for mothers.
In these stages of life, in addition to taking care of themselves, mothers are also obliged to take care of their child. Paying attention to nutrition, sleep, cleanness and maintaining personal hygiene are considered important in the field of child and mother care. However, according to the realities of the society, in addition to not being aware of the vital matters for their health, the majority of Afghan Mothers are suffering from malnutrition in various ways.
Malnutrition occurs when the body receives the needed vitamins and nutrients from an unbalanced diet; in fact, malnutrition can refer to both low food intake, excessive and unbalanced food consumption.
Various reasons cause malnutrition which include improper nutrition, difficulty in receiving food, various physical and mental conditions, poor economic status and low income. However, in general, improper nutrition is the most important cause of malnutrition.
In cases where a person, for various reasons, deprives his body of access to the necessary food; willingly or unwillingly, it directly affects his/her body, and in such a situation, he/she will face lack of weight compared to his height and age or he/she will face many health problems and deficiencies.
Bright Future and Welfare Organization (BFWO), as a health support organization is trying to use all resources in its disposal to help families, individuals and communities to receive quality health services through the growth and development of health, education and training wherever they live. This organization with the financial cooperation of donors is currently operating in the remote areas of three provinces of Afghanistan (Kunduz, Nangarhar and Kunar).
Based on the understanding of the importance of human health, BFWO has been able to deliver health services behind the gates of the most marginalized citizen of these provinces through Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams (MHNT) to benefit the deprived from the basic health services.
MHNTs, which are funded by UNICEF include medical doctors, nutrition nurses, midwives, nutrition consultants, psychosocial consultants, social health promoters, and vaccinator, who provide health services in the remote areas.
The mobile health and nutrition teams tries to provide health services such as administering necessary vaccinations, pre-prenatal and post-parental care, addressing acute and moderate cases of malnutrition, and teaching important issues of better nutrition to the residents of white areas in these provinces.
It can be mentioned that in order to achieve the set goals, nutrition assistants have started working in the framework of the TSFP project alongside the MHNTs in order to reduce the cases of malnutrition in the mentioned provinces. The Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program is funded by the World Food Program (WFP) which distributes nutritional supplements to malnourished people, especially children under five years of age and pregnant and lactating women.
